What are Touchups? Why Are They Necessary?

How long do microblading treatments take?

Microblading is typically done in two sessions: Session one usually takes two to three hours to shape, style and apply touch-ups. Session two is performed four to six weeks later for a one to two hour touch up.

Does microblading take a long time to heal?

Microblading takes about ten days for redness to fade, after which the initial color of the eyebrows should also lighten. As the color sets it begins to lighten over the span of a month.

Why are touch-ups necessary?

Touch-ups are an important part of the process since differences in healing can create varied outcomes. It also may be necessary to adjust the color and brow thickness. During your touch up session we make the final adjustments to assure you love your new eyebrows.

Can I get my touch-up done sooner than 4 weeks?

Getting your touch-up done sooner than four weeks is not recommended since the healing process should be complete before final adjustments are made.

Does microblading hurt?

While the level of discomfort varies depending on your tolerance, most say it’s relatively minor- similar to tweezing a few eyebrow hairs simultaneously.

A safe topical anesthetic can be used to numb the area. Redness and slight swelling is common after microblading, with many comparing the feeling to a slight sunburn. Tylenol can be taken to help with any discomfort.

What are the pre/post care instructions?

Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and any vitamins for seventy-two hours prior to your session since they may thin your blood. Avoid tanning to allow your natural skin tone to be assessed.

Are there any post-procedure instructions?

Keep brows clean using moistened Q-tip.

Gently remove Skin Candy healing balm along with any lymphatic liquid using a clean cloth, Q-tip or tissue then lightly apply more healing balm.

You can use a light layer of Skin Candy healing balm in the morning and evening for five to seven days. Be careful not to apply too much Skin Candy at one time to prevent a delay in healing.

Avoid immersing brows in water for at least two weeks.

Avoid eyebrow area when showering or when washing face.

Don’t use makeup on eyebrow area for up to two weeks.

Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and vitamins for 24 hours after the procedure since they can thin the blood.

Avoid peeling or scratching as your eyebrow area heals.

No swimming, tanning or saunas for two weeks.

No face scrubs or chemical peels for two weeks.

Who should avoid microblading?

While microblading is perfectly safe for most people, there are some exceptions. If you take Accutane, have a heart condition or take heart medications, take blood thinning medications, or have diabetes you should get a physician’s approval. Microblading is not recommended for people with skin diseases or inflammations, those who have had Botox in the last two weeks, or anyone who has received a deep tan or chemical peel in the last two weeks.

It is also not a recommended procedure for those allergic to lidocaine, tetracaine, or epinephrine. If you are pregnant or have other medical conditions please consult with your doctor before scheduling a treatment.

What are the risks or complications with microblading?

Proper precautions, such as sterilized or disposable tools used in a sanitized environment typically ensure safe procedures. Following pre and post care instructions also reduces the risk of complications. Allergic reactions to pigments while rare, do sometimes occur. For this reason, a pigment patch test for those with sensitive skin is recommended in advance of the procedure.

What do I do if I don’t like the result?

Choosing your practitioner carefully, comparing the work of various artists, and discussing your expectations and desired outcome; such as the shape, style, and color you wish with the artist ensures the best results. If you still aren't happy adjustments to color and shape may be made during your touch up. Remember that Microbladed brows do eventually fade away without regular touch ups.

What is the difference between microblading and other permanent makeup?

The difference between microblading and other permanent makeup is that it’s not done by a machine, but by the hand of an artist. Pigment is applied to the skin by hand allowing for nuanced control over the application process. A microblading artist’s pen is equipped with sterilized clustered blades that gently glide over the skin causing tiny cuts, as fine as a paper cut, leaving a line that can hardly be distinguished from real hair.
